WILD GmbH awarded with the Medical Technology Industry „Oscar“
On the 8th of June, 2011 WILD was distinguished with one of the world´s most renowned awards in the area of medical technology - the „Medical Design Excellence Award 2011“ in New York for the production of the VeinViewer® Vision. WILD is the only Austrian supply company that can take pride in receiving such a distinction this year.
Völkermarkt. Since almost one year, WILD has been producing the VeinViewer®Vision – a device to make veins visible on the skin surface - at their production facilty in Völkermarkt for the US Concern Christie Medical Holdings Inc. Now the Austrian opto-mechatronic specialist can take pride in receiving a very special distinction. On the 8th of June 2011, the managing director Thomas Jost and the manager of Organisational Development and Process Management Mario Rodler, together with their client Christie, were presented with the renowned „Medical Design Excellence Award 2011“ during the „Medical Design & Manufacturing East“ Conference in New York. WILD was distinguished in the category „General Hospital Devices and Therapeutic Products“. „It is recognition for us to be the production partner of such a global corporation like Christie and it fills us with pride to be able to produce such a complexly constructed high-tech product here in Carinthia.“, said Thomas Jost as he thanked his clients for their trust.
The Medical Design Excellence Award (MDEA) Competition honors the achievements of the manufacturers and suppliers of medical devices whose innovative products play a decisive role in improving worldwide patient care. Characteristics such as product innovation, design and engineering achievements and advantages for the consumer are rated, as well as cost efficiency in production and health care. The VeinViewer® Vision played out all its advantages in these points and excited the14 member jury. Convincing above all were the many advantages for patients, the patented technology and the modern design.
The VeinViewer® Vision helps medical professionals to find the best location for venous access or blood withdrawal. It draws a clearly seen digital map of veins on each skin type – regardless of age, physique or the skin color of the patient. This enables easy placement of infusions and reduces failed injections by atleast 50%. For the patient this means less pain and less stress as well as a reduced risk of infection. For hospitals this means less costs.
Technical Innovations
In comparison to existing devices, the new generation Vein Viewers are considerably smaller and more compact, weighing only 25kg compared to the previous 61kg, are battery operated and offer more medical imaging features. The optical unit of the VeinViewer® Vision is mounted onto a mobile trolley by means of a swinging arm. Therefore, the doctor has both hands free and can concentrate completely on the patient. WILD was involved in the development process even before the start of serial production. „Amongst other things, we carried out the serial transition, developed tests and testing apparatus and also carried out endurance tests“, project manager Reinhard Pasterk describes the areas in which the experience of WILD was decisive in bringing the innovative device to serial maturity. Since June 2010, a total of 800 exemplars of the VeinViewer® Vision, already in use worldwide, have been produced at the Völkermarkt production facilty.
