Future technology simplifies blood donations

During an employee blood donation campaign at the company WILD, the Vein Viewer® Vision - a patented technology to make blood vessels visible – was used for the first time. This was a premiere for the Red cross in Carinthia.

Völkermarkt. During a blood donation campaign initiated by WILD in which more than 50 employees volunteered for this good cause, the Vein Viewer® Vision was used for the first time in Carinthia. The Red Cross team was visibly impressed by the high-tech device from overseas that is produced at the WILD facility in Völkermarkt. The device finds hypodermic blood vessels and projects them in real-time onto the surface of the skin. This makes the placement of infusions easier and reduces failed injections by about 50%. Further advantages are: Shorter access time which reduces pain during a blood withdrawal and the green image produced by the VeinViewer ® Vision which is a welcome distraction from the actual vein puncture procedure.

„The idea for the campaign came from our client Christie Medical Holdings Inc., for whom we have been producing the Vein Viewer® Vision since June 2010“, says WILD- Executive Director Thomas Jost. A training course for the distributors is taking place today at WILD in co-operation with the US Concern.

Fear of needles is traceable not only in children but also many adults. Studies have shown that an average of 2.4 injections are necessary, sometimes even up to 14 injections, before the patients vein is found. Especially when treating the elderly, small children and babies with small veins, embedded in baby fat, even experienced doctors find it hard to find blood vessels with the needle quickly and accurately. Sometimes children must be injected in the veins on their head or feet. A plight that many patients can soon be spared thanks to the new Vein Viewer. Doctors  are enthusiastic about the relief that the Vein Viewer provides for patients.
